“Art Appreciation” means an increasing awareness of and responsiveness to art at the University of Georgia. It also means an increasing knowledge and understanding of art. In this course, particular attention is focused on the visual arts (architecture, sculpture, and painting). The critical, aesthetic, historical, and technical aspects of the major art forms are emphasized.Each of the ten lessons consists of readings, learning objectives, and a written assignment. Discussion sections accompany each lesson in the course guide and amplify material. The written assignments consist of essay questions that require you to apply information from the text and discussion sections. Answers to essay questions typically should be several paragraphs in length. Some essay questions require additional resources, such as periodical articles (which may be found in a library or by use of the Internet). Any general statements should be supported with details. Some field exercises are also included to put you in direct contact with the art you are studying. Each lesson contains terms to define and remember.
