The Liberal Studies provides a broad, well-rounded education that builds up effective communication skills and the ability to think critically and analytically, all of which are traits that are highly in-demand in today’s marketplace. With this degree, you'll be well-prepared for a range of job opportunities or for further education at the graduate level. It also allows preparation for a profession in elementary education and receive credit for classroom experience.

The program curriculum consists of core courses in baccalaureate, liberal arts, liberal studies major, and electives, all of which totals to at least 180 credits, which includes at least 60 upper division. The Liberal Studies major allows students to create their own plan of study where they get to select courses from any combination of all 14 departments in the College of Liberal Arts. The combination of choosing your own degree path and the convenience of online courses makes the Ecampus Liberal Studies degree a flexible learning solution.

As a graduate of the B.A./B.S. Liberal Studies degree program, you will:

Students enrolled in this program are required to develop and submit a thematically-based plan of study composed of coursework from within the College of Liberal Arts; a statement of justification should be submitted with the plan of study. Explain the details of how to prepare and submit your degree plan by the end of your first term during your first advising appointment.

Upon completion of the program, graduates could work in a variety of career fields like marketing and public relations, personnel, government, healthcare, retail, radio/television, publishing, computer hardware/software. They could also pursue any of the following possibilities:

Admission Requirements:

Prospective students should have an excellent academic record (a minimum 3. 0 on a 4.0 scales or "B" grade average or equivalent) from an accredited or recognized institution to be admitted to Oregon State University. Students must have acquired minimum TOEFL for Regular Admission score of 527 on the paper-based test, 71 on the Internet based-test and for Conditional Admission score of 475 on the paper-based test, 53 on the Internet based-test. Students should have minimum IELTS for Regular Admission score of 6.0 and for Conditional Admission score of 5.0.
