Students enrolled in this program are very privileged as they gain from the country's leading provider of professional arts education, UMass Amherst's Arts Extension Service, by studying in the UMass Amherst University Without Walls (UWW) degree completion program Arts Administration Individualized Concentrations offered to them online. As the only institution that offers the only bachelor's degree completion concentration in arts administration in the United States, UWW has access to arts management colleagues from all over the world thus students will meet a great many other professionals who are currently working in the field and those who are volunteering in a range of arts and cultural organizations. In Arts Administration Individualized Concentrations courses students will have the opportunity to use their knowledge directly to a case study organization - ideally, their very own non-profit. Students in Arts Administration are offered 8 upper-division courses created specifically to assist them to develop an area of concentration in an online format. They must finish a minimum of 5 upper-division courses in their area of concentration. Fundamental principles in management, like fund-raising and fiscal management, gives students the knowledge in placing where the profits should really be, while at the same time provide them with methods to replenish badly needed funds for the development of the arts and artists chasing this passion. Management and administration professionals assist students from start to finish, paying attention to the significance of correlating arts in conducting business. In the first semester, students take the UWW Frameworks for Understanding course - building a foundation for going back to college and obtaining the necessary skills to design their degree and make the prior learning portfolio. Most students also take one of these four courses in the first semester which include organizational life, leadership, technology, or public policy - two of which should be taken prior to the UWW Writing about experience course. Upon completion of the core courses, students will take UWW's writing about experience course. Here students will create a prior learning portfolio that documents, describes, and analyzes learning students have acquired throughout their life, work and training experiences. As soon as completed, student’s portfolio will be examined by faculty, and they'll be awarded up to 30 academic credits. Admission Requirements: Interested applicants should have completed High School diploma or its equivalent (GED) and 75 transfer credits from other accredited institutions toward graduation as long as the course grade is C (2.0 grade point average) or better. Minimum admissions requirements is 12 credits of college course work (a composition course is strongly recommended). |
