The mission of the Hugh A. The Master of Music in Music Education degree fulfills the advanced educational requirement beyond licensure in the State of Ohio. It is the professional standard required in public school teaching. This degree program also provides potential key career outcomes such as:
•Higher level of teaching certificate or licensure
•Renewal of teaching certificates or licensure
•Preparation for doctoral programs
•Promotion in current position or to a new position
Teachers must first meet the following Kent State University requirements for admission who wish to complete the Master of Music in Music Education program: A minimum music GPA of 3.0 and at least a 2.77 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) for overall college coursework; Current teaching licensure or teacher certification in at least one state; and evidence of graduation in good standing from an accredited Bachelor of Music degree in music education program.
