A.A.S. in Medical Transcription
Medical transcriptionists enjoy exposure to many different medical disciplines. They work in hospitals, physicians' offices, and a broad range of other medical facilities. Medical transcriptionists are responsible for turning doctors' daily dictation tapes into clear, concise print and electronic documents. Such records are the main reference for health care decisions made by patients and their physicians. They must be produced in a accurate, timely, and confidential manner. Work is frequently outsourced to independent contractors who operate their businesses from home.† You may qualify to sit for the Certified Medical Transcriptionist examination, when you graduate from this program and meet the requirements of the American Association of Medical Transcription (AAMT).§ Certification is often a requirement for employment as a medical transcriptionist. †Kaplan University's programs are designed to prepare graduates to pursue employment in their field of study, or in related fields. However, the University does not guarantee that graduates will be placed in any particular job or employed at all.
§Although certain programs at Kaplan University are designed to prepare students to take various certification or licensing exams, the University cannot guarantee the student will pass those exams. In some cases, field experience and/or background checks may be necessary to be eligible to take or to successfully pass the exams.
